Stash Justified!

November 25, 2008 at 7:51 pm (Being Frugal, family, funny stuff, knitting)

This year, due to some difficult circumstances, we will be spending a little less on Christmas this year. But I’m not sure it means less gifts. Instead it means, more knitting! Because of my very sizeable stash, I will be giving a LOT of handknit gifts this year. Like, doll clothes, hats and mittens, cute and tiny bags. And more knitting almost always equals more fun for me!

An Apple a Day….

November 7, 2008 at 2:53 pm (Being Frugal, food, funny stuff)

Last night, I was in charge of dinner for the teachers during parent-teacher conferences.  We served up Cafe Rio salads buffet-style and let the teachers help themselves.  It was a huge hit!  The apples I bought, however, were not.  I bought 40 Gala apples and I think only 1/4 of them were taken.  I gave some to the people who were helping me, but still ended up with 20 apples to add to the 3+ lbs. sitting in my fridge.  Anyone have any ideas as to how I can use these up quickly?

It’s P-p-p-porky the P-p-p-pig!

Is it just me, or does the Jack-o-Lantern on the right bear a striking resemblance to Porky the Pig?

We carved pumpkins last night with the DD’s.  Pumpkin on the left was designed and carved by DD #1, pumpkin on the right by DD #2.

We Did It!

September 18, 2008 at 12:30 pm (Entertainment, family, funny stuff)

After an hour riding the Trax train and 1 1/2 hours of waiting in line, we got to see the Monet to Picasso exhibit.  It was really quite amazing.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many real paintings done by so many famous artists in one place.  It was really interesting to watch DD#2 who has a definite interest in art.  Before entering the exhibit, they give you an audioguide.  DD #2 spent her time looking for works of art with numbers on them so she could dial them in and listen to information about them.  DD#1 and I learned to make ourselves comfortable when we were done with a room and wait for DD#2 to finish.  She made me a little nervous at the Renoir and Van Gogh paintings.  She walked right up to the guard ropes and then leaned over as if to put herself nose-to-nose with the painting!  LOL…I just reached over and yanked her back.  And when we left, we got free passes to come back to the museum another time because of the long wait in line.

Too Funny

September 3, 2008 at 12:12 am (funny stuff, knitting)

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a knitting pattern for the Killer Bunny from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  DD #1 told me that I must not knit it unless I was going to also knit a holy hand grenade.  I now have a pattern that fits the bill! 🙂
