The Dr. Who Scarf is done!

Yarn: Don’t ask, it would take ten pages to tell you! It’s enough to knit an entire Dr. Who bodysuit!
Needles: size 8
Modifications: None

This scarf took months to knit! I’m really glad it’s done.

Needles: size 6, but I think this would have been better on a 4 or 6

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton in Fern Green

Comments: I really liked this pattern. It knits up very quickly and the texture and pattern are soooo pretty. I will definitely make this one again!

The Mommywog Cowl

When my mom was finishing her Masters in speech pathology, she had to work with patients in the speech clinic at the university. Quite often she would bring home tape recordings of her sessions and listen to them. Once she was listening to one of a child and she was showing him pictures. He called a frog a “wog” and when she pointed to the bigger frog he said that was the “mommy wog”. This has since become a nickname for my mom. From time to time she returns the favor and calls me “babywog”.

Yarn: Burly Spun in Blue Flannel

Needles: Size 13 Circular

Dimensions: 16″x 6 1/2 “

Cast on 44 stitches. Establish K1 P1 rib pattern. Continue pattern until about 6 1/2 inches long. Block, weave in ends and sew on buttons. Because of the looseness of the fabric, you will not need to make buttonholes. However, a little bit of felt on the wrong side of the fabric where you sew on the buttons will help them to stay put!

Magic Melvin’s Hat and Cowl

This year my dad wanted a warm hat and scarf. I started out by making a hat and then got thinking about the scarf. I didn’t want to knit a full-sized scarf. I’m already seven feet into a Dr. Who scarf and another 6 feet of scarf on top of 12 feet of the Dr. Who scarf just didn’t sound appealing right now!
So instead I knitted a cowl for him. My dad, who is a very practical man loved it! He oohed and ahhhed over the colorwork, which I found amusing, since it’s pretty simple colorwork. Although, I must admit the blue and black are a very striking color combination.

Magic Melvin’s Cowl Stats

Cast on 70 sts. Knit 5 rows of K1 P1 twisted rib. Switch to stockinette stitch with twisted rib border of 6 sts on either side. Colorwork pattern used from The Knitting Workshop by Elizabeth Zimmerman.

Yarn: Paton’s Classic Wool in Black and That’s Blue

Needles: size 7 circular

Magic Melvin’s Hat Stats
Modified the Marsan Watchcap Pattern. Followed the instructions for the twisted rib brim. Then switched to stockinette stitch, added the same colorwork as the hat, and worked the crown decreases from the watchcap. Used the same needles and yarn.

I just bought a mountain bike for DD#1 for Christmas at the thrift store for $15! It’s in very good condition. It just needs to be cleaned up and have a few parts replaced, like the broken reflector on the back…YAY!

Stash Justified!

This year, due to some difficult circumstances, we will be spending a little less on Christmas this year. But I’m not sure it means less gifts. Instead it means, more knitting! Because of my very sizeable stash, I will be giving a LOT of handknit gifts this year. Like, doll clothes, hats and mittens, cute and tiny bags. And more knitting almost always equals more fun for me!

Dot’s Little Ditty Bags

I saw one here and started my own. Next thing I knew, it had multiplied into SEVEN! These will make great little goody bags for the girls’ teachers, etc. for Christmas. Just add a small tube of lotion and some gum/candy!

Apple Slump

Eight apples down…twelve to go. Last night, we made Apple Slump. This was a recipe I came across at Mother-Daughter Book Club last month. We were discussing a book called The Mother Daughter Book Club, of course! And since it was about a mother-daughter book club that was reading Little Women, what would be more appropriate than to include a recipe for Apple Slump. This was a delicious dessert! It received rave reviews from all family members. I used wheat flour instead of white and the apples are so sweet I think you could use less sugar. Just don’t tell that to Blooshusband! He always objects when I say I could put less sugar in a recipe!
