Gardening is Not for Wimps!
Today I did my first planting in my vegetable garden…in the snow!
Nonetheless, it feels good to have a few things planted!
-
36 onions
-
9 broccoli
-
6 cabbage
-
more green onions than I can count
-
5 spinach
-
70 sweet peas
I’m looking forward to enjoying them!
Stopping to Smell the Flowers
This morning as I was out weeding the yard, I noticed that the color of my Blue Mist Spirea had really intensified.
Until recently the color had been really pale, and I was a little disappointed. Not anymore!
It will look really nice once the sunflowers I planted with it start blooming. Here’s a shot of one I discovered this morning.
Ooohh! My favorite flowers and some unexpected color from a new plant! That’s a great way to start the day!
Could I Have Your Smallest Zucchini Please?
Yesterday, I needed some zucchini so I traded some of my garden veggies with a neighbor who has been positively overwhelmed with her zucchini plants. She said, “Sure, which one would you like?”, and brought out three VERY LARGE zucchini. I picked the smallest of the three.
I only needed half of it for my recipe, it was so big.!
How Does Your Garden Grow?
I was excited to see some tiny melons on my Sugar Baby melon plant. They were so cute I just had to take some pictures!
My Mr. Stripey tomato plant was an experiment this year and one that I think will have been worth it. I can already see the striping in the green tomatoes!
I also made one of my favorite recipes today: Benito Bean Dip.. It’s from one of my favorite cookbooks, Lickety Split Meals. You can download some free recipes here. They are usually good, simple and healthy.
Love those Lemon Cucumbers
I picked two lemon cukes a couple of days ago and they taste so good! This was my first year growing cucumbers and I must say I am impressed with these! I think I will be having fresh cucumbers for awhile if the number of blossoms are any indication.
As far as other news… DD#2 lost her first front tooth! Here are a couple of pictures of her cute toothy grin!
Fresh cucumbers
I tried a new cucumber in my garden this year and I definitely recommend it. It grows like crazy and the cucumbers although small are nice and tasty. It’s a lemon cucumber, named for the shape and color of the fruit. It’s bug resistant because its skin isn’t bitter like other hybrids. We did a taste test today with the first one and it was delicious!
Thanks Everyone for a Great Visit!
